Middle School

The Middle School class at The Boyd School serves students ages 12-14. Adolescence is a powerful age; one of explosive growth and change on physical, social, emotional and intellectual levels. Our work is guided by Dr. Montessori's understanding of the developmental characteristics and needs of students at this level.

Our Middle School is a supportive community where students know they re respected and supported; where they can struggle, work hard, be responsible, challenge themselves and discover the best of themselves. The whole learning environment encourages the students to be leaders, take responsibility for the community as well as their own education. Each student is expected to think deeply and critically, to be intellectually independent, and to value the viewpoint of others. Our classrooms encourage questions and honest, open discussions that connect students to the world of ideas, knowledge and discovery beyond the four walls of the classroom.

The Middle School curriculum includes a strong outdoor component rooted in Montessori's vision for meaningful interaction with the natural world. Students are encouraged to become good stewards of our earth and protectors of its natural resources.

The Boyd School Middle School is characterized by a rigorous and challenging curriculum that supports the students' inquisitive nature and captures the skills, knowledge and attitudes necessary for successful schoolarship in high schol and beyond.
